Even in death he's still a good mentor lol
Good mentor my ass realistically hes haunting and tormenting thorfin yall need to stop with the bs that he was like a papa to him😂😂
He did more for Thorfin than anyone else up to that point. He was a great mentor. Taking care of your enemies child, how the fuck can you hate on this man.
So according to the author himself the mentoring monologue of Askeladd to Thorfinn on the moment of his death was an impromptue addition of last minute, until that point never had the author intended for Askeladd to be some sort of substitute father or even really care about Thorfinn for all thats worth.
Thats taken out of context, he definitely cared for the boy and he continued to be the object of his rage to keep him alive when he could have killed him. He didnt care for him like a son, but he definitely cared and raised him to survive
While I agree that Askeladd did raise him and allowed him to survive, it was more because he found Thorfinn useful than because he felt like taking on the mantle of fatherhood from Thors. I really like Askeladd and would be 100% for considering him as Thorfinn's father but sadly it's not such a clear cut
His inner monologues about Thorfinn didnt seem like he was just doing it because he was useful... i mean he was useful and he'd tell the other raiders that but he genuinely felt bad for taking his father.
More like Thorfinn just managed to survive, Askeladd didn't kill him cuz he is useful and is pretty easy to manipulate.
Exactly they glazing him because "kool " all askleadadd did was use him they must of completely forgot how he was able to kill thorz in the first place hes a master manipulator
The fact his cunning, knowledge and values end up mentoring Thorfinn is not mutually exclusive with the fact that this situation was built and maintained by Askeladd to exploit Thorfinns potential.
Further Askeladd was not sociopathically or psychopathically exploiting and manipulating everyone/everything around him. He was shown to have had a conscience being weighted down by the life he felt necessary to lead. Moreover this obligation was not selfish making it hard to condemn him outright for hos wrong doings.
yes he did though him to survive but not from caring or fatherly instinct all Askeladd saw in Thorfinn was himself younger basically he was raising a prodigy nothing more i can see him as a mentor for teaching Thorfinn the art of war but not a father figure for sure
You guys don't seem to understand the mindset of the Norse or Vikings back in those days. Their definition of fatherhood was vastly different from ours in the modern world. They were a race of warriors that lived and died on the battlefield. They would rather died on the battlefields than in bed because their dreams were to die a warrior an went to Valhalla. They didn't raise their sons. They raise warriors. If they raise great warriors, they did their job as fathers. Askeladd is not the type to tell you how much he loves you in order to be a good father. He is good father because he raised Thorfinn into an unstoppable warrior. The reason Thorfinn is having so much inner conflict and guilty conscience about the lives he took, and about what is the right way to become a warrior is believed it or not, he got it from Askeladd. He must have gained it from spending so much time by Askeladd and learned what kind of a person Askeladd truly was.
He allowed him to live and follow them. That in itself raised the lil motherfucker. How.long do you think h3 would have survived had they thrown him out the ocean or just left him somewhere.
letting someone tag along isn't necessarily raising lol
to be fair he did always send him solo to scout dangerous areas or to outright suicide missions, he was giving him the expendable treatment
What hunting? Thorfinn followed him on his own will.
This raises an interesting question of whether a person who killed MC's dad and, in a way, became MC's dad... a good father figure?
Haunting implying hes in his head having whole conversation which is not normal 😐
I'd rather have an Askeladd than what Canute got!
Askeladd isn't there, he is a projection of Thorfinn's duality (internal fight) between the paths of violence and his fathers pacifist beliefs
Askeladd simply respect Thor's wish to let them go and he ended up keeping his promise to a warrior he look up to and took care of Thorfinn but of course as they journey Askeladd naturally because Thorfinn's mentor and as a leader's perspective Thorfinn became one of his underling though not in a way but also not really I think because me always let Thorfinn starve.
it's kinda incredible how you missed the entire point of his character
he is just folowwing what thors says he isnt a mentor btw he was mentored by thors all the choices askelad made in the end was because he got influenced by a true warrior the only one in this world of vinland mr thors
Yea like your pfp
I guess Askeladd will be Thorfinn's permanent warrior side (alter ego) whenever he's about to get into some serious shii and use physical force/violence that can lead to minor injuries to death for the other person. while his calm, peaceful, pacifist side (alter ego) is possibly his father. I find it amusing that Askeladd is his "voice in his head" even though he was his enemy, that's a interesting dynamic, quite deep.
Askeladd is Thorfinn's stand now.
Well that askeladded quickly.
*ba dum tss*
i love that pfp where can i find it?
Right click on my PFP and search Google for this image. It's on Pinterest
like caunte talks to his father. thorfinns talks to askeladd
lol yeah
Hooray more screen time for Askeladd 👏
It's thanks to Askeladd, it's just because of him we're gonna see a little of the old Thorfinn for a few moments next episode, even in death he's guiding Thorfinn such a good mentor he is lol.
Askeladd commentary was lit. He learned many lessons from him especially about combat, insight and tact. Peeps are forgetting that its not only Askeladd that is haunting Thorfinn mind. His real dad has come to the front a couple of times too. But he is not the one who trained/forced thorfinn to fight.
On a different note, it would be awesome if the prince Canute would show up next episode, now that Thorfinn found his kill mode again.
Askeladd being more father figure to thorfin than thor LOL
been missing that hahahaha
Lol, the ultimate insult to Thors. Wonder if the anime will lead Thorfinn back to Thors in the end.
The old master is truly the real MVP.....
I don't want him to die T^T
We both.
Which he didnt kill thors
was he the one who killed him?
Thorfinn, Einar, and even old man help Arnheid
Excited to see Thorfinn in action next episode
Thorfinn actuslly had potentional to be the strongest warrior there is, since his father was. But he doesn't chose this path and remains an average man throughout the series his older self was always stronger.
He's not average tho...no slave moves and fights like that
On top of that, he farm-bred strong
He's become a pacifist because he's haunted by the souls of those he's killed and he's about to have a relapse
Do it for her lol
simp them all..
That Askeladd little commentary
